OS start screen

for some reson when I start my computer, after the Dell logo goes away, a
screen comes up asking me which system I want to use,
Windows XP Pro
or
Windows XP Pro Setup

if I do not choose one quickly it goes to a blue screen telling me to
restart......
most annoying. What have i done?

also... in an effort to fix this I have tried to boot from my XP CD per one
of microsofts knowledge base articles...... I am unable to boot from the
CD.. despite making it the "first" boot device in the setup screen......any
ideas?

Just use your arrow keys and select Windows XP, not
setup. Hit enter, when everthing is running, right click
on My Computer, either the desktop icon or the start
menu. Select the Advanced tab, near the bottom, Startup
and Recovery, click the Settings button. In System
Startup, Click Edit, Now delete the line in the Boot file
with the reference to the Windows XP Setup. Exit and
save. Be carefull only to delete that line. If needed
maximize the window your in and it will show the whole
line to delete.

I didn't realize this, but there is an easier way, Type:
msconfig in the Start Menu Run box, hit enter, click on
the BOOT.INI tab, then click on Check All Boot Paths,
supposedly if there is an invalid path (ie: Windows Xp
Setup) it will prompt you to remove it.

thanks russ.... all appears ok now!
still can't figure out why I can't boot from my XP disc..... I may need to
some time.
I went into setup and made my CDROM the first boot device, but it doesn't
seem to do anything different..... hmmmm

Some pc's don't do that, mostly older ones (2-3 years
old). I my case, I have a PIII (3 years old), and it
doesn't do that (Boot from CD-Rom). Sometimes you may be
able to find a BIOS Upgrade.

If your system is Fat32, use Windows 98se boot disk, if
it is NTFS, then you need to create setup disks, I
believe there are 6 of them, go here:

Find BOOT.INI and edit it to remove the second [operating systems]
line.

It should look something like this:
