My 2000 advanced server got an error:

Stop: 0xc0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SYSTEM or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

after I installed a j2sdk package, and rebooted my
computer. And I could not start my computer.

By looking up through the internet(I have a dual boot
system, so I am able to start my me), I can start my win2k
system by replacing c:\winnt\system32\software with
c:\winnt\repair\software. However, I lost all
softwares/applications which I installed after my
operating system installation. I saw from ms support
center that, for XP, there is a way to restore/recovery
the system. Is there a way to do this under win2k server
if I do not have any backups?

Hello,

Yes, in winxp we have System Restore, but this is not a feature of win2k DC.

On win2k DCs we rely heavily on backups.
