Organize Favorites and Start Menu Documents

I am wondering how to arrange favorites and start menu -> documents -> my
documents. Right now, my documents are listed in alphabetical order up to a
certain date. All newer files are dumped haphazardly at the bottom. I
wanted a way to arrange the documents so they are in alphabetical order as
of today. I have the same kind of problem with Favorites. Is there are way
to auto-arrange the entries so they are in alphabetical order rather than
the newest entries being at the bottom of the list?
