Oracle 8.17 installer will not run

After installing Oracle 9.2 on a Win XP box and then
uninstalling it to install version 8.17, the installer
will not run to do the setup. Is there any registry
entries or ODBC settings that need to be configured
before I can get 8.17's installer to run?

C'est un bug connu avec les processeur céléron dont la fréquence est
supérieur à 1,4Ghz ou avec lesprocesseurs Pentium 4.
Pour corriger ce bug, la marche à suivre est la suivante :

1. Create a temporary directory on your server.
2. Copy the entire contents of the Oracle RDBMS Server CD to the temporary
directory created in step 1.
3. Search the directory structure created in Step 1 for the existence of the
filename symcjit.dll.
4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
5. Run the setup.exe from the \install\win32 directory and install Oracle
8.1.x and related products.
