Optimizing virtual memory

I followed the suggestions at this link...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/columns/archive.mspx

.... to optimize the virtual memory on both computers on my home network,
by splitting the pagefile.sys over two physical drives on each pc.

It works fine on the pc with 256Mb ram where I find a pagefile on both
the C: and E: drives.

The pc with 1Gb ram will only show a page file in the root of drive E:
even though the customized file size settings still show in the C: drive
configuration dialog, just no pagefile to be seen in the root. If I just
configure vm for C:, then I will find a pagefile.sys in the root.

Any comments please?

Thanks,

On the machine with 256MB of RAM I can see a need for VM(pagefile) but on a machine with 1G of RAM you should simply set XP to "system managed size" as I rather doubt you will need any VM. Not even for the most graphic intensive games or apps. Good luck. {:~)

If you set System Managed it is going to give an initial 1.5 GB tied up
on a 1GB machine. Which is absurdly wasteful: disk space is cheap, but
not to be thrown away. Try initial 100 MB, leaving the max high. And
