I'm having a rather annoying and strange problem. I have three optical drives
connected to this comuter and none are working. They are an HP 8220e USB
CDRW, Sony DRU-510A DVD-+RW, and a Lite-On LTR-24102B. They were working fine
only a few days ago. The HP drive kept coming up as a HP 8200f and there has
been some use issues with using the drive on the computer I was trying to
solve. The Driver Updater refused to see the correct downloaded drivers from
HP as good ones. So I attempted to remove some excess stuff manually in order
to force windows to use my drivers. I did NOT delete cdrom.sys, imapi.sys,
redbook.sys, or storporp.dll. These files remained intact the entire time. I
did remove some excess files that seem to be garbage. I also removed any and
all cd/dvd burning software and there are no driver installations for any of
the optical drives on this machine. One of the files I removed was
GEARAspiWDM.sys but have since replaced it and it loads in the Driver details
window now. All of the devices are detected and attempt to load the drivers
but somehow fail and do not give any access. I have read through the
cdrom.inf file to see if I was missing anything or if my drives require
something special. It appears from the manufacturers website that the drives
all are supported natively with windows. Since I have replaced all native
Windows driver files, i'm wondering why on earth the damn things don't load.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Service Pack 2 in case any files were
corrupted. No change. Am I missing something else?? Reformatting this
computer simply isn't an option. I could really use any help you can give.
Thanks.
