My machine seems to have slowed noticeably (both online and offline) and I'm
wondering if I might have picked up a "Nasty". I'm using XP (Home) with
Windows firewall activated, as well as Worldnet's integral firewall, and
running NAV, Ad-Aware, and SpyBot. When Windows hung up on me during
shutdown, I tried C-A-D and got just a glimpse of two programs which were
apparently still running in the background; I think they were "MSMSG" and
"HIDDENFAX", neither of which are on my MSCONFIG Start list which does
include wkfud, Wkssb, WkDetect, point32, clApp, trayctl, usePrmpt, CAM Check
(a SiPix program), Nerocheck, InCD, billminder and MicrosoftWorksCa...., and
I have disabled Windows Messenger I noticed that when I hover on the
internet icon in my System Tray it shows a steady increase in "bytes Sent",
even when I'm not intentionally uploading anything or surfing. I'm
wondering -does my Start list look normal, and is the bytes Sent business
also normal? I just never noticed it before now. I thib\nk I'm doing all the
right things, and would hate to be 'data-mined' through ignorance.
