Opical Mouse concern

I'm running XP Pro on an IBM Netvista X40, 1gigmhz/128ram.
My new usb optical mouse, a cheapie by Genica, works fine
except when I shut down the computer the light stays on in
the mouse. Can I fix this so the light goes off when the
computer is off? Isn't that what's supposed to happen? If
the light stays on is that doing anything I should be
concerned about, like draining the the internal battery or
something?
Thanks,
Jeff

Often seen, and no cause for concern. If this is a laptop, it's doubtful
that the power use is consequential. Others may comment...

Thanks for replying... the computer is a desktop. What I
meant by internal battery is the small coin sized clock
battery on the motherboard. I don't know if anything
external like the mouse remaining lit would drain any
juice from this battery.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hasn't here, in many years of usage.

Jeff,

On the newer computer systems (ATX style MBs) when the power is turned off
by the computer shutdown, power is still applied to the motherboard and to
the USB ports and also to the internal modem and to some network cards. This
enables those devices to power up the computer if a signal is received from
them by an outside source or the mouse is moved. Most people have these
features disabled in their bios and also in the OS. In other words, the
computer won't come on when the mouse is moved but the power is still there.
The power is NOT coming from the onboard battery but your wall outlet
through your computer's power supply. The only way to turn off the mouse is
to also turn off the power either on the back of the computer by using the
power supply's on/off rocker switch or by using a power center/strip and
turning it off there AFTER the computer has completed a normal shutdown.

Under no circumstances should a computer user turn off a computer by using
the rear power switch or a power strip UNITL the computer has finished a
normal shutdown.
