Operation Masters

[David Hodgson]

Hi folks,

A little while ago 1 of my 2 domain controllers failed, it was the
primary. I had to force the operation master roles onto the other DC. I
have built another DC but now when the original reboots or is
unavailable I cannot logon to the network. I'm sure this has something
to do with the op masters?

anyone help?

Before you went and promoted a new dc did you cleanup metadata? My guess is
no and you probably used the same name.

I used a different computer name, would I still have to check metadata?

What error do you get when logging on?

does it also host DNS services?

a Global Catalog SERVER is required for the logon process to complete.
Make the new server a GC.

Yes, you still need to clean up your metadata.

Check to see if the dc is a dns server and it is a Global Catalog server.
Also make sure the client points to multiple dns servers, so in the event
one is down it has a fall back.
