Operation Aborted

When I attempt to access www.circuitcity.com and www.yahoo.com on my IE6
browser I receive the error message "Cannot open site. Operation Aborted."
When I click "ok" I am taken to the IE "Cannot Find Server" page. 1) How do
I correct this, and 2) What caused this?

Thank you.

Is it just those two URLs that you can't get to? If so, you might want to
consider deleting the cookies for those two sites and try again. You could
also try clearing out all temporary internet files.

If you can't get to *any* sites, I'd check for spyware/malware and viruses.
Do a search on the newsgroups for spyware -- you'll get back a zillion ideas
on how to clean it up.

No, it is almost all sites. I did clear all the temporary internet files. I
recently removed Norton Anitvirus because it was outdated and I had planned
to install virus software from grisoft.

How do I find out if there is spyware/malware or viruses on the comp. and
how do I go about removing them?

Thanks.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
