Operation Aborted error

i keep getting an error... "internet explorer cannot open
the internet site http://xxxxxx Operation Aborted."

What is causeing this and how do i fix this?? I dont see
how it could be my hosts file.
 
I also get the same error at 90% of the websites I try to
go to. It just started all of a sudden. I've re-
downloaded IE6 but it didn't help. I was told it was a
internet provider problem but they seem to think
otherwise. I've had high speed internet for several
months and had no problem until about 3 weeks ago. A
friend at work also has the same problem. We both use XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
