Operating System Fails to load

Darren

I am trying to load the Operating System (XP Pro). The system gets about
half way through the install and then decides to suddenly shutdown. The
Hard disk I am using is a 40GB disk and is partitioned. I have tried
deleting the Partition, and have performed a slow Format. Then re-partioned
and have attempted to load winodws XP again but still no joy. Initially the
Hard Disk was taken from another PC with a different motherboard, and the
first time round I tried to complete a repair to Microsoft XP Professional.
The same thing happens if I try loading Linux Red Hat 9.

The motherboard is a IC7-G and is using a Pentium 4 478 CPU

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try disabling OB sound (if applicable) before you install. Dare I ask if
this is a 40 gig MAXTOR..... before JohnS asks and tells you its broken.

Is this a new build? What PSU, make and rating? Run a memory test.
Installing OS is very demanding on system.

Right here goes. Forgive me if I can't answer or miss something. I am a
'Newbie' as this is the first time I have ever built a PC from scratch. A
bit of background information for you first as follows:-

I bought the IC7-G motherboard 2nd hand from a friend with other various PC
components. The first time I put this together, the screen wouldn't display
anything but when checking the CPU, I found that two Pins were bent. They
were both straightened out and the screen successfully displayed the boot up
sequence after re-inserting the CPU. Obviously now I am unable to load the
operating system as previously described.

Here is the break down of components on the motherboard:-

Ethernet card slotted into a PCI slot,
Win TV Card slotted into a PCI slot,
Dial up modem card slotted into a PCI slot,
Graphics Card inserted into the AGP slot,
40 GB Western Digital Enhanced Hard Drive (Model: WD400) inserted into IDE1
with Jumper taken out,
Rewritable Ricoh (Model: MP7163A) CD ROM inserted into IDE2 with Jumper
taken out,
Floppy Disk Drive not connected,

I have not set any system voltage because I don't know how to.

Hope all this information is of some assistance for you and again, I
appreciate you help.

Regards,

Darren

Simplify. Get rid of everything except the video hd (add the floppy)
check the jumper on the cd; I've never seen one yet that doesn't need
to be set to either master, slave or cable select; no jumper isn't an
option usually.

Tried that, it doesn't work I'm afraid
