Opera tunes up to take on Firefox

It seems that the race to become the second largest/most used web browser after Microsoft Internet Explorer is closer than ever before. Currently, Mozilla Firefox holds the No.2 position with around an 8% market share. Opera has recently shown that they are capable of providing Firefox with some hefty competition.

On the 20th September, Opera made available for download a version of their software which is ad-free. Many believe that the biggest factor holding people back from downloading the Opera software was the absense of such a feature. Since 20/09/05, the Norwegian software developer claims that there have been 2.4million downloads.

As it stands, it is hard to tell whether Opera will knock Firefox from second place. Watch this space...

I had used Opera sometime back and they seemed to be having issues with many websites, some would not even open. I am not sure how it would perform now but the only way is to download the latest version and check it out. Will do that soon.
