OpenOffice and Dragon Naturally Speaking?

Ed Chait

I downloaded and installed OpenOffice 2.0 and liked it until I tried using
Dragon Naturally Speaking with it, which is a popular voice recognition
program.

I could not get DNS to work with OpenOffice.

Is OpenOffice compatible with DNS?

thanks,

The excellent user webforum for DNS is at http://forum.knowbrainer.com/

I use both ! BUT: if you want to use then facility that the program
lerns from your corrections you have to use the inbuilt text treatment
and then export into your oo writer/MS ... whatever. And at this point,
all cats have the same grey colour.

I just started DNS 8, OOo 2.0.1 and dictated:
This is a trial. And we are now dictating in open office.

And here we go. This is a message for the newsgroup Elton Dalton called.freeware

I guess the last word looks also weird because I didn't know how to
dictate the name of the ng.

Does this answer your question ?

I have seen recent discussion concerning screen readers and OpenOffice 2.0,
but can't remember what exactly was decided or what came of it; I know that
the developers are definitely keen to support these important tools but
remember talk of having problems with some voice recognition vendors being
unhelpful, and didn't have the resources (Manpower, software) to completely
overcome the problem.

The Quality Assurance project site is being a pain at the moment, but you
could try searching http://qa.openoffice.org/ for "Accessibility" or "voice
recognition" etc., and see what results you get in the mailing lists section.

You could also join the mailing list and ask the question directly :)

Yes Frank, it does. If I have to lose the "select-and-say" function of
Dragon, it's not worth using, as far as I'm concerned.

thanks,
