Opening Word document over the VPN - freezing

Hi,

I'm having this problem with opening word, and sometimes Excel, document
over the VPN connection.
This is what I'm doing:-
Run the VPN software to connect to the company's network.
Open "Windows Explorer" and go to the "G:\Documents" drive and folder.
Open a word document located in this folder.
Word starts to open, splash screen pops up and then the Word windows opens up.
Word freezes and task manager shows word.exe as "Not Repsonding"

Could this be a problem with the VPN connection, VPN port number being
blocked by the firewall on the router, word DOT template file, printer
driver, virus scanner, or anything else?

Hopes someone can help,
Thanks
Best regards
Scott

Have you tried the other ways of opening the document?
1. Open Word first, then click on the G: document?
2. Open Word, use File Open to open the file from the G:?
I use a VPN connect frequently and have not come across any major problems,
except maybe tad slower than usual sometime.

Hi DeanH,

Yes, I forgot to mention, if I open word first and then double click on the
word document in the G: drive then this opens with no problems, why is this,
do you know?

Thanks

Not sure really, I have always thought it could be the Explorer CIFS hanging
a bit and times out so never completes the required get_file request.
The wonders of Microsoft ;-)

Good Afternoon Styoda,

I was just wondering did you ever manage to fix this problem.

I am having the same issue but it is only from one of the network drives
that the user is mapping through his login script

Cheers
