Opening Word 2007 from the start menu

I am unable to open Word 2007 from the pinned items on the start menu, or
when it comes up in a start search. Word opens normally when opened from "all
programs" or when an existing document is opened. Has anyone else had this
problem? is there a fix?

using Vista x64, no error message.

What happens if you right click on the Word icon and choose Unpin From Start
Menu? Can you run from the start menu when Word is not pinned but just
there from recent usage? Or what happens if you right click on the icon and
choose Remove From This List and then use open and close Word enough times
for it to show up on the Start menu again?

Did you run the Office Diagnostics (it is actually the repair tool) from the
Microsoft Office Tools folder?

Office diagnostics shows no precise or relevant results regarding the
inability to open office from the face of the start menu.
