Opening Simply Accounting files

A

Alex Paradi

I'm trying to open a simply accounting database. The file
has an extention .sdb. There is also a file with an
extention .sdw.

These are databases created presumably with Jet and just
renamed. The .sdw file will open with Access no problem.
When I open it I can see a number of queries that have
data in them, but no tables for the queries to be based
on... which struck me as odd...

When I try to open the Simply Accounting (SA) .sdb file I
get an error saying that I don't have the necessary
permissions to do so. Which is ofcourse a load of hooey.
The SA program and Access are both installed on a stand
alone Win XP Home Edition machine.

The SA tables can be accessed using an ODBC link from
Crystal Reporting with no problems, but it does prompt me
for a UserID and Password.

SA requires that you have a UserID to open it (it defaults
to Sysadmin with a blank password).

Anyone know how I can get around this? I know that there
is a way because SA documention says that it should be
accessable from Access.

Thanks,

Alex Paradi

From your description, the.sdw is probably their custom workgroup file.

Try creating a shortcut with the following target (all on one line):

"full path to MSACCESS.EXE"
"full path to .sdb file"
/wrkgrp "full path to .sdw file"

Personally, I'd be taking a copy of all those files before I messed around
with them ...
