Opening powerpoint shows in email

My son recently installed powerpoint viewer on my computer so that I could
open slide show attachments which my friends send me. Even so, when I click
on the 'open' button, the email tells me that "there is no MIME type
application... etc." and so, I save the attachment in my documents, and then
I can open it by double clicking. Why can't my email - which is Forte Agent
-find my powerpoint viewer? I have the same trouble with xls attachments,
and wmvs, and have no idea how to 'select an application,' when prompted to
do so. Grateful for any suggestions re this MIME message - it's a bugbear!

Hmmm, Microsoft file types might best be viewed with Microsoft software.
Say Outlook or Outlook Express. <g>

You may have to set a preference in Agent that tells it what program to open PPT
files with.

Yup.

Go here:

See section 3-6-2 and that general neighborhood.

and so, I save the attachment in my documents, and then

Thanks for the replies! I'll pass on the info to my son, our computer guru,
since he's our 'administrator' and I can't do anything complicated myself
anyway.
I hope the problem can be solved - much obliged! :-)

Problem solved! :-)
My son said he already knew what he had to do, but couldn't find where
powerpoint was embedded in Windows - he tried again, found powerpoint, and
has added it to the applications list, and now I can open the attachments in
my email!
Now that I know all this, I can ask him with impunity to do the same for any
other MIME application bugs in future, LOL!
Thank you Steve :-)
(I might add that I've saved the Forte site and this area into my bookmarks,
now that I've found you, for future reference, because you've been very
helpful indeed!)

Hey, great news. And give that boy a nice bump in his allowance too.
Even if he *is* 55 years old. <g>
