Can you open PDF documents in Word 2002 and then save them as Word docs?

Yes.

You have to get Adobe Acrobat Pro 6 (which I have). It puts an option in the
Open File dialog box, for pdf files. Once they're opened in Word, you can
save them in .doc format.

After converting PDF doc. to Word and editing it, can I convert the edited Word
doc. back to PDF doc. ?

Thank you

If you have PDF writing software - there are several types linked from the
favourites page of my web site.

There seem to be several free programs for converting Word files into pdf
(eg pdf995) but are there similar free programs to convert pdf files into
Word files?

I don't know about free - you'll have to do some digging at Google - but for
unprotected PDFs there is http://www.verypdf.com/ and good OCR software like
Finereader will do the trick. You can even grab the text using a screen
capture utility like SnagIt.
