Opening Paradox files in Access 2000

This is very elementary
I have a paradox file eg ADDSTYLE.DB
I want to open it in Windows XP SP2 using Access 2000
I get the option of adding Paradox files in Access, (the machine has BDE 32
version 5.1.0.4 loaded), but I always get an error message such as "External
table not in expected format", or "Unexpected error from external datsbase
driver 8961".
Also error messages if I try to open bdeadmin.exe
I really need help. Thank you
