Opening my mp3 music with WMP

Hi fellows, I'm new here!! I downloaded mp3 music and some movies on the net but there're some files I can't read with my current wmp. I downloaded the series 9 version, yet I still can't get it work. I even tried opening them with Divx, some did open while others couldn't. What do I do

Don't pirate music and movies! ;-) Perhaps the files are corrupt.
