Opening My Computer

A lot of the time I find that My Computer does not open properly even if it
is the only thing I open. It just keeps searching for a very long time
(torch). This means that I cannot open files or transfer data from one drive
to another. It also stops Explore from opening properly. Even when open I
sometimes find that I cannot use the Send To function, the comp freezes. I am
using XP Pro.

Could it be spywares?

Download SpyBot
Boot into Safe Mode.
Install SpyBot.
Scan your PC.

You did take the screws out from along the edge of the panel?

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Seriously, Explorer drive-access delays are often due to a faulty CD/DVD
disc or drive. Since Explorer always scans these (even if there is no
intention to use them!) a failure causes delays.

Thanks, yes I have loose screws! Seriously though I did wonder whether it could be the CD or scanner hanging things up. Something I will look into.

I doubt spyware. I run Spybot and other anti spyware fairly regularly along with other utilities. Thanks anyway.
