Opening multiple files

New computer. XP SP2.

Cannot open multiple files of the same type.

Multiple files selected. Right click to "open"... nothing happens.

Or, right click to "open with"... only the last of the selected files
open...

Opening single files works fine, open the appropriate associated
program, etc.

I've experienced this on other XP systems as well. Is there something
I'm missing, or is there a bug?

no solution but out of curiosity, what are the files and how much RAM in the
system

say, multiple pdf, multiple MS Word doc, ppt, etc. (the normal stuff)

new notebook, 512 MB ram

no bizarre things in memory (basically, Norton AV, MS antispam, etc.)

I tried opening 4 pdfs and 3 docs and I don't see the problem

I selected the files and press Enter
