Opening multiple browser windows

My problem started today when I realized I'm unable to open more than one
window of Explorer. I use Windows XP and had no problems until now, but if I
try to open a new window, it opens over the one I have now (and defaults to
my home page) rather than opening a NEW page. When I right click a link to
"open in a new window" it does not do so, it opens the link in the current
window.

The one thing I did this morning was switch my yahoo email account to the
BETA version. I have since switched back, wondering if that's the problem.
I've run virus scans, re-booted, etc. Nothing seems to work. I have NO idea
where to turn now. HELP!!!

Try one of these steps to fix internet explorer ( two of then need the
istalation cd, and the last one does'nt)

1----Reinstall Internet explorer

insert the windows install cd
start – run – and type or copy/paste:

rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHintSection DefaultInstall132
c:\Windows\inf\ie.inf

hit enter...restart computer when finish

2----Repair Internet Explorer
Start – run – type or copy/paste sfc /scannow (press
enter)
insert cd when ask for it and wait untill finish, restart computer

-------or-----

Start – search , and choose files or folders, click the more advanced
options and check “search hidden files and foldersâ€, now type: ie.inf , look
on C drive...click search now
The correct ie.inf file is located at the windows\inf folder...Right click
the ie.inf file and choose install from the drop-down menu that
appears..Restart computer when files are finish copied.

Open Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options. In the Advanced tab,
uncheck the option "Reuse windows for launching Shortcuts."

Additional recommendations:

This is usually caused by third-party browser add-ons. Disable all Pop-up
blockers if installed any. Here is a detailed note from Don Varnau, MS-MVP
Internet Explorer.

<quote>
You probably have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another) pop-up blocker, MyIE2 (or another shell for IE) etc.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

BHO Demon from http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm may find the
offending program/BHO.

Or it could be caused by spyware/parasites. Work through the solutions
(CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

You'd be interested in using my program ToolbarCop to disable the IE add-ons
(that includes browser extensions, toolbars, additional buttons to the
standard toolbar, Browser Helper Objects) selectively, to isolate the
problem. ToolbarCop can be downloaded from:

control panel>internet options>advanced>
about the nineteenth on down
[ ] Reuse window for launching shortcuts.
It does seem as if you have other problems.
