opening MDB and MDE files

Hello,

Not too sure if the links will work correctly as I am not sure if you are
allowed to use HTML in these posts.

The problem that I am having with internet explorer is this. When opening
an MDB or an MDE (Microsoft Access 2003) files from the web in internet
explorer the files will open before I get the warning message of the "Unknown
Publisher."

If that above image didn't work the source is:

The only difference between the MDB file and the MDE one is when you click
"Run" on that security warning it will open another instance where as the MDB
will not.

I don't mind the security warning, in fact I think it is an excellent
feature to have in Internet Explorer. What I don't like is the fact that it
runs the Access databases before I get that security warning and that it will
open a double instance of the database if it is an MDE file and you click
"Run" on the security warning.

Is this a flaw of Internet Explorer?

I created a test page (just a few links on the page) with an MDB, MDE and an
EXE file to illustrate the differences between the three files. The first
two are the same access database except one is compiled to MDE format, when
it is opened, it will open a form with a button on there that if clicked will
message box hello on the screen.

The EXE is just and dialog template of an MFC project created with Visual
Studio 2005 (I linked the libraries statically, so you won't need any other
files besides the EXE to run the program).

Here is the link:

I am using Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
on Windows XP Professional edition SP2

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Hi Pikestriker :)

First clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete files
(and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often recommended
that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Security and click the Internet Icon and click
the Default settings button, close IE and see if that helps.

Go to Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question, e.g. for .zip
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File, for this example)
Click on Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version, and check
the "Confirm open after download" box

If no joy, then see the information below:

Open a DOS window and enter at the prompt "ipconfig
/flushdns" (without the quotes), then enter at the prompt "ipconfig
/registerdns" (without the quotes). Test and if this has fixed
things, stop here.

Hope this helps.
