When opening files in Word there used to be an arrow that would send you to
the previous directory of files - where did it go? How can I quickly change
directories as I could before?

What version of Word are you using?

Suzanne,

While I've got you and you are the expert, I used to be able to go the table
tab and click on the formula button to sum a column of numbers in my
invoices. With Word 07 I can't figure out how to do that without inserting a
field - which requires that I be in the new version of Word (not backward
compatible) which means that the document cannot be opened by clients who do
not have this latest software. Any way for me to sum numbers without
entering a field?

Rick

Sorry, I'm not using Word 2007 yet, but I'm sure there is a way to do what
you want, and someone will sooner or later post it.

I figured as much. Unfortunately, I'm not using Word 2007 yet, so I can't
help.

Can you explain in a little more detail what it is you're looking for? What
I assumed you to mean appears unchanged in 2007 to me.

Several points here ....

Fields are not new in 2007 and there is no compatibility issue.

The Table > Formula dialog just gave you a shortcut to adding a particular
type of field.

The keyboard shortcut, Alt+A,O will still bring up the dialog for you in
2007.

When you have the insertion point (cursor) in a table you will see two
contextual tabs on the Ribbon. Under a banner of "Table Tools", these are
"Design" (selected by default) and "Layout". On the Layout tab there is a
Group called "Data" and the Formula option appears either directly within
the Group on the Ribbon (if your screen resolution allows) or in the pop-up
expanded Group you get when you click on the dropdown arrow.
