opening excel from desktop

I try to click on an excel file on the desktop to open it. Excel
opens up to a blank worksheet. The file I clicked on does not open. There
are no error messages and nothing else happens

Then your shortcut is f***ed up. It's not pointing to the file, but
to Excel
