Opening Excel attachments

I am unable to open Excel most attachments sent to me. My
Outlook Express seems to go to an old version of Excel
rather than the newer Office 97 version which has been
updated.
How can I get Outlook Express to use the newer version of
Excel when opening an attachment????

First thing I'd try to do is to reregister the newest version of excel you have.

Close Excel
windows start button
Run
"c:\yourpathtothelatestversion\excel.exe" /regserver

Either the last version installed (or the last version registered) owns the .xls
extension.
