opening downloaded email attachments

When I try to open a file attachment that I downloaded
from my e-mail I get the message "unable to load graphic
conversion filter" what does this mean and how can I fix
it.

It sounds like the program that is trying to open the image file does not
recognize that type of file.
What is the file extension for the file? (ie: .jpg, .img, .bmp, etc)

What's the file extension you are trying to open and what application you
are using.

[This error might occur if you open a .DOC file made in Winword and you are
opening the same file using Wordpad]
