Opening documents in Word 2007

any idea why when i try to open a document from My Computer, Word starts then
tells me that the link to the document is missing and it cant be found. If I
then open the same document from within Word it finds it ok????
Help ! this is frustrating

I haven't seen this particular problem, but re-registering Word might be
