I don't know. I work in an office environment on a network. But, as that
first screen flashes by, I can make out copyright, something, something.,
2001. Does that help??

When you're in Word (or any MS App for that matter) click on Help and then
select About. This will give you your version and release number.

Find out for sure from Help | About Microsoft Word. If its copyright 2001,
it's probably Word 2002, but this *does* make a difference.

Okay, in that case you have complete control over what styles will be
displayed. By default, out of the box, in a new Blank Document, Word
displays Headings 1-3, Default Paragraph Font, Clear Formatting, and More...
It adds other styles as you use them; that is, the Styles dropdown always
(supposedly) displays "Styles in use" (which really means, "Styles that have
ever been used in this document even though some of them aren't really in
use any more"). In previous versions, the best you could do was open Format
| Style, set the view to "Styles in use," and "Delete" the unwanted styles.
This didn't really delete the styles from the document, just from the list,
and it was not possible to delete any of the heading styles once they were
on the list.

In Word 2002 and 2003, if you open the Styles and Formatting task pane and
choose Custom, you'll get the Format Settings dialog, which allows you to
choose the "Styles to be visible" in a variety of categories, including
"Styles in use," which are the ones displayed in the dropdown (I think). For
more on this, see
