Opening .doc documents in Vista

I had this problem (I hate Vista it has caused me so many problems) and the
solution was:

Click Start > Programs > Default Programs > Associate a File Type or
Protocol with a Program > Etc

Let me know if that doesn't work and there could be one other way.
