"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an
unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application"
but it does not install the application when i click on "yes".
I do not have any Norten product on my laptop.Running CA's eTrust antivirus
on my laptop. I have tried re-registering GRAPH.eXE on my laptop but it did
not solve the issue.

Make sure you have all service packs for Office and Windows installed.

Also, from that FAQ: "Again ... Norton isn't the only culprit Other
antivirus programs include Office virus scanning features. It's always a
good idea to disable them, if only temporarily, at the first sign of trouble
with PowerPoint."

Make sure you've disabled anything in eTrust that smells of Office virus
scanning.

Finally, are you sure the charts were created in MSGraph? Sometimes this is
a legit error message -- like if you're trying to open a chart created and
pasted in from in SAS or some program like that, but you don't have that
application installed.

Suresh,

Regarding this, try

Rightclick the chart
See if there's something like a Chart Object or similar item on the popup menu
Point to it then click Convert

The convert dialog box should give you some idea of the source of the object
(see the top of the dialog box next to "Current type")

It's an MSGraph chart only.On a ppt file, if I insert a chart object it opens
up a grid to edit the contents.I can see GRAPH.EXE running also. But If I save
the same ppt and open again, the chart object is not editable. It throws the
error I mentioned.

OK. So have you tried Echo's suggestion and disabled first any Office file
scanning feature of your antivirus software and if that fails, disabled your virus
checker totally (after disconnecting the pc from the network for safety)?

I tried un-installing anti-virus package on my laptop but no result.I do not
suspect any anti-virus package because on a new ppt when i insert a chart
object, it opens MS Graph for edit.Once i save the same file and try to open
the object it gives the error.
