When people send me emails with attachments, outlook express always says they are unsafe and I am unable to open them. I know they are coming from reliable sources and do not contain viruses. Does anyone know how I can change that setting?

Hi

Take a look at the following MS knowledge base articles (Copy and paste the
URL address lines into your IE address bar if they are not clickable):

Cannot Open E-Mail Attachments in OE After You Install SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329570

Information About the Unsafe File List in Internet Explorer 6
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;291369

OLEXP Using Virus Protection Features in Outlook Express 6
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;291387

a quick work around this is to act like you are qoing to
forward the email and the attachment will appear in that
forward window then you can double click on it and it will
ask you to open or save.

Hey Kim

simplest way to make attachments available is going to the tools menu, an
open the opions
there go to the security tab and at the top you'll see an option "do not
allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
just uncheck this option, click apply and ok, and you'll be able to open
attachments from the original mail

regards

Tom

Greetings --

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect you. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment actually
contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of those file
types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook Express,
Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to
be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option, assuming
you trust the source, of course. The wiser course of action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
