Opening attachments in Outlook Express using XP

Guest

Whenever I try to open a attachment in Outllok Express, I get a message saying:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Folders Option panel".
I have unchecked the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that
could possibly be a virus" box located in the secutiry tab of options in
Oulook Express and still I can't open it. If I right click on the attachment
it doesn't give me the option of what to open it with. Just the option to
open it, and then I get the message box. They are mainly .jpg files that I
have tried to open. Please Help.

Hi,

Click start/run, type "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" and click ok. Then see if this
allows you to open the .jpg files. Make sure OE and any other programs are
closed when you do this.

See below.

I have unchecked the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or
opened
that could possibly be a virus" box located in the secutiry tab

No, that's a separate and different issue.

If I right click
on the attachment it doesn't give me the option of what to open
it
with. Just the option to
open it, and then I get the message box. They are mainly .jpg
files
that I have tried to open. Please Help.

In My Computer or Windows Explorer, find any jpg file,
right-click on it, and choose "Open with." Select the program you
want to open it with and check the box "Always use this
program..."

Repeat with any other type of file for which you have this
problem.
