opening attachments from outlook

Dear Newsgroup, I am having a problem opening two attachments that were sent to me. They show up under attachments, but, they are greyed out. So I can't access them. One file is a .doc file (word) and the other is an Excel file (.xls). I have micrsoft works. I don't understand why I can't open them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Again

The .doc file is a Microsoft Word document.
The .xls file is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
Both of these programs are from the Microsoft Office group
of programs.

Microsoft Works may not be able to open these. Can you
ask the person who sent them to you to convert them to
Microsoft Works files?
