Opening a Word file in My Documents opens Publisher instead

Lately whenever I open My Documents file and double-click to open a Word
document, the Publisher window opens first on the screen and attempts to
convert my Word document to a Publisher file. I then have to shut the
Publisher window, open Word and then open my document (I am running XP
Professional). How do I stop this from happening?

It is likely that the File Type association in your computer somehow
associates ".DOC" file extension to Publisher rather than Word.

Use Windows Explorer Menu Tools / Folder Options... / File Type tab and find
the ".DOC" entry and re-associate it to Word rather than Publisher.

BTW, you posted to the wrong newsgroup. This newsgroup is for Microsoft
Access, a database application. If you still have problems, suggest you
re-post the question to one of the relevant Word newsgroups.

Right click on the file and chose the "open with" choice, you should be
able to chose to make the change stick.

Sorry. This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access, the
database program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not
be related to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that
clear and may have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.
