Opening a word attatchment out of outlook express?

Teddy

I recieved a very important emial and when i try to open it, it says it is an
unknown file type. When i click open, it then says "This file does not have a
program associated with it for preforming this action. Create an association
in the folder options control panel." I know this document is a word
document. I then saved the document from my email to my desktop, and tried
opening it from there. Microsoft word opens, and it asks me for a file
conversion for the document. Everything i try does not put it into english,
just a bunch of letters and numbers.

Any ideas on how to fix this and make it so i can open the document? I have
Outlook Express as my email and Microsoft Word 2002

You may know what it is but have you considered asking the sender what file
format they are sending you? Unless you are the sender as well as the
receiver, yoiu can't be sure.

Is it by any chance a .docx format document? If it is, you can ask the
sender to save it in .doc format so you can open it.

The first point is that it is very bad practice to open documents directly
from e-mail and accounts almost daily for complaints of lost work. Much
better to save the attachment to the hard drive.

The second is whether you really do have the means to open this document. If
the document is a Word 2007 docx format document, you will need a converter
to open it -
