Opening a second word files freezes mouse clicks...

I have recently upgraded Word2000 to WordXP because of
the damn Normal.dot problem and that seemed to fix that
problem...Now, everytime I open a second word file, I can
no longer high text with the mouse. I can move the
cursor just fine but I cannot select anything. I can
move the little flashie thing with the arrow keys and
highlight stuff with the shit and arrow keys...This
happens with any word files...New, old, anything...

Getting sick of microsoft but I still need a answer so
thank you to whoever is so kind to have a solution to
this...

Thanks in advance,

Renato

What damned normal.dot problem? Normal.dot is an essential system file and
Word will not work without it. If you have simply upgraded Word by
installing over the earlier version, not only will you still have
normal.dot, but the *same* normal.dot.

My guess is that you have some corruption in normal.dot and that you may
have a corrupt data key in the registry.
Rename normal.dot to oldnormal.dot, delete the data key from the registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Data

and before restarting Word attend to the issues raised at:

This should bring you back close to install defaults.

Thank you very much for your quick response even though
the Normal.dot template file is no longer my problem.
Yes indeed I had a corrupt Normal.dot file, which
corrupted about every third time I opened Word2000. Now
that I have upgraded to WordXP, that problem has been
resolved. Now my problem is that when I open one word
file, leave this file open, then open another word file,
I no longer can click to move the little blickie thingy
to a new spot in the document. I can only move the
blinkie thing with the arrow keys. I cannot highlight
anything with the mouse either...only with the arrow keys
and the shift keys. I close both documents and open one
then everything is just fine again. But now supposed I
want to copy different parts of one document to the other
one...am I supposed to keep closing and opening each one
after another???

Thanks again in advance...
