Opening a document

When using Office 2000, I used to be able to open a
document by going to FILE>OPEN and type in the first few
characters of the filename, which would then
automatically scroll down to any files that start with
those characters.

Since I upgraded to Office XP, I cannot do that anymore.
How can I get that feature back? Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks!
