opening a CSV file by Excel

My coworker was trying to open a CSV file from a network drive. When he
opens it, the comma delimeted rows do not convert into columns
(everything shows up in column A). However, when I open the same file
with my machine, it does convert to an excel format for me. We have the
same setting and same version at work.

My coworker requires opening the file and everything works like before
(converting into different columns). I guess there is some setting that
they changed accidentally? Please help!!! Because it is a read only
file, I can't change the extension to txt or anything. I have no idea
what my coworker did. PLEASE HELP.

My bet is that you and your coworker actually have a different windows regional
setting for the list character.

Windows start button|control panel|regional settings applet

I bet one of you has a comma and one of you has a semicolon.

And the one that works matches what's in the .csv file.

i'd reccomend uninstalling excel from every machine in the house and
using a database

Dave,

This is exactly what happened! They move in and out different setting
because of French, and that's why it wasn't working for them.

Thanks a million!

Will Access on a computer with a ";" data separator in regional settings
open a CSV file properly?

The problem reported here was not an Excel problem.
