"Opened exclusively or need permissions"

Have 2 desktops and 1 laptop on a wireless network and share 5 AC2000
databases. I can open any 4 of the 5 from any location. All users are
Admin. One database is split and a copy of the frontend is on each
workstation and the backend is on my workstation.

this setup has worked for at least a year or so but recently I get the message

"..jet ...can not open the file ( my backend). It is already opened
exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view it's data"

when I try to use 'linked table manager' .

When I map to the drive that holds the backend and try to open it by double
clicking nothing happens - no error no nothing.

I have checked and the db options show the db is opened 'shared'.

What is going on??

any and all help is appreciated

Make sure that all the users have full permissions, or at least read, write,
create, and delete, for the database file and the folder that it's in.

I'm actually surprised that you've had such good luck with Access and
wireless. Access often doesn't play well on wireless networds. It's possible
that could be the problem also.

Hi Jerry, and thanks for the reply.

All users are admin and the DB is in a folder with 5 other DBs that can be
opened from any workstation. Also I just checked and the 'can't open'
problem is now on both workstations where the backend DB is not resident.
One is hardwired and the other is wireless.

Are there some issues with size? Or the use of VBA? This DB is far and
away the largest of the set.

There is a possibility that a user is opening up the database exclusively.
It's best to have them open the database with a shortcut icon. That should
eliminate that problem.

Also you could look at the .ldb file. If everyone is out of the database,
the file should not be there. If it stays, it could cause problems. Also if
it is locked you can sometimes read the .ldb file for that database and see
who has it opened.
