Open window in same window- not working

I just had to reinstall XP, and I'm trying to get it set
back up. RIght now, whenever I try to open a folder in My
computer by double clicking it opens a new window every
time. this continues in all folders.

I have set the option in "folder options" to 'open
windows in the same window', but XP ingnores this setting
anyways. any suggestions? is there somewhere in the
registry where I can set this?
