Open Web

If the remote server has the FP extensions, then you don't want to use FTP.

Using FTP you will not actually be able to edit the content of the site,
only to upload or download pages to work on to your HD. Note: Any FP
component that require the FP run-time extensions will not function is
uploaded via FTP.

Dear all

I Open Microsoft Frontpage
2. Under "File," I Click on "Open Web"
3. Where it says "web name," I type for ex. http://www.icyyyy.com
4. A window will pop up, and where it says username, type icyyyy.com
5. under password, I type in xxxxxxx

This Way I can access the site for mofdifications...

But what if I don't have a frontpage and I want to update the site using ftp
waht ftp site should I open...
Could front page tell me waht is it?

Thanks all

Ice Man,

I am little confused...

If you plan to use Notepad to design your pages and then use a FTP
application to upload the content, you don't need FP, as you will gain no
really benefit from using it. So I would suggest that you have the host
remove the FP extensions from the server as well.

As far as determining where to upload via FTP, you need to check with your
host, as it may not be the same URL as used by FP and the login info could
also be different.

However if you want to speed up the design and development process I
recommend that you give a FP shot, however to work effective with FP, you
must always open a web first, which can be a local folder on your HD, where
you would maintain all of the content for the specific web, you then create
or import any content into this current open FP web prior to using. FP will
then manage your hyperlinks between pages and handle publishing of content
that has changes, etc. You do not have to use any of the FP component, such
as themes, shared borders or navigations for FP to manage the content,
however I suggest you looking into using the FP Include Page component, the
table drawing functions as they will speed up your site development.

Ok thanks Thomas... but I'm building my html pages using notepad... I'm
writing the code... after I'm willing to upload the files to the site...
using ftp.
.... and Should I understand from ur e-mail that my html pages might not
work! ?
another last thing how can I know the address of the remote server? from
frontpage?? coz when I do an "open web" it does really open the site for
modifications.... so I guess frontpage can know the remote server address

thanks
