open/save file dialog box sort

suddenly... my file dialog boxes are sorting by modified
date rather than, my preferred, alpha name AND only on non-
MicroSoft apps!!

The old W98 trick of ...hold CTRL while closing explorer
by the upper right X had no effect.

Photoshop especially. grrrr and Help!

Do you have an option to "Arrange Icons By" if you right click in the area where the files and folders are listed in the
Open/Save dialog?
