Open Multiple Files results in repeated "Copy" and "Move" prompts

This started happening a few days ago:

From Windows Explorer, I:
* select more than one file
* right-click
* choose Open

Windows pops up a BrowseForFolder box, asking where to Move the 1st file. I
cancel. It displays same box, asking where to Copy 1st file. I click
Cancel. The first file then opens in the designated application (for .doc,
this is WinWord, for .txt it is UltraEdit32, etc.). Then, the same thing
happens with the 2nd file (2 prompts appear, then it opens.)

If I only select a single file, it opens just fine, without the extra
popups.

Environment: XP Pro, all latest patches, and just loaded Windows Defender.
I don't think I installed anything with an Explorer Shell extension, but
it's not entirely ruled out.

You added the Copy To and Move To builtin shell extension to the context menu. It is a extension that expects to be on a toolbar not a menu..

Problem caused by adding Copy To and Move To as context menu entries

Thanks -- that did it. I vaguely remember doing something to add those
context handlers. Something came up in the course of another software
operation, and I guess I saw the facility listed, and thought "that sounds
like a good idea".

You're welcome.
