Open File - Security Warning

C

Catchin' On

Hello,

I have an access database that I have in a shared folder on our network
server. When some of our computers open the db file a pop up window says:
Open File - Security Warning
Then asks: Are you sure you want to open this file. Then has the name of
the db file, and the publisher is listed as unknown. How can I stop this and
why is it only doing it on some of our computers. I have digitally signed a
certificate and installed it on all the computers so i'm kind of clueless....

Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated and are so needed...

Thanks again,
-H-

You didn't say what operating system you are using, but I had the same issue
when I first installed Vista on several of my company's computers. I believe
the following technique will work on WinXP computers also.

To get rid of the popup box that says: "Open File - Security Warning" when
you try to open up a file over your intranet, use the following procedure:

1. Click "Start", then "Run" then type: inetcpl.cpl
2. Click the "Security" tab at the top
3. Click "Trusted Sites" then click "Sites"
4. In the top box, type: https://192.168.1.101 (replace with whatever the
IP address is for your server)(make sure you type "https" and not "http"
5. Click "Add"
6. Uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
7. Click "Close"
8. Click on "Local intranet"
9. Click "Sites"
10: Uncheck "Automatically detect intranet network"
11. Make sure all 3 items below this are now CHECKED.
12. Click OK and then click OK again.

This should fix the problem
This works for both WinXP and Vista

Here's another way that I have not tried, but it may work:

Run gpedit.msc, and go to Local Computer
Policy->UserConfiguration->Administrative
Templates->WindowsComponents->Attachment Manager
and enable "Default risk level for file attachments", and then enable
"Inclusion list for low risk file types"

and add to this list the file extensions that you want to open without
triggering this crap.
