open existing files

I recently upgraded to Excel 2002. Under my previous
version I could open files by choosing OPEN and then
entering any portion of a file name in the FILE NAME and
Excel would provide me with a list of matches. Now, no
matter what I enter in FILE NAME, Excel returns a blank.
Do I need to change a setting?
 
It looks like a change in Excel's behavior to me. You can enter *your text*
(an asterisk before and after your file name fragment) to get similar
behavior.
