Open Exclusive unavailable in Access 2007 database.

Clicking the Microsoft Office Button for opening a database in exclusive mode
isn’t available in my system. I’m only offered a simple open command. How
do I change the system to provide open exclusive, as I need this to password
protect my database? I’m not sharing or networking with anyone - just me and
my own PC.

I'm sure the experts here will clear this up, but despite what the Access
2007 Help says:
<quote>
Open a database from within Access
If Access is already running, use the following procedure to open a
database:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Open.
Click a shortcut in the Open dialog box, or in the Look in box, click the
drive or folder that contains the database that you want.
In the folder list, browse to the folder that contains the database.
When you find the database, do one of the following:
Double-click the database to open it in the default mode specified in the
Access Options dialog box or the mode that was set by an administrative
policy.
Click Open to open the database for shared access in a multi-user
environment so that you and other users can read and write to the database.
Click the arrow next to the Open button and then click Open Read-Only to
open the database for read-only access so that you can view but not edit it.
Other users can still read and write to the database.
Click the arrow next to the Open button and then click Open Exclusive to
open the database with exclusive access. When you have a database open with
exclusive access, anyone else who tries to open the database receives a
"file already in use" message.
</quote>

I don't see any options with Open, either (no solid triangle to the right of
"Open" in my menu).
I did find a way to invoke "Open Exclusive" by doing the following:

Click the Office globe, then click Access Options.
Click the Advanced tab, then, under Advanced (you may have to scroll down
manually to see it), select Exclusive as the default open mode.

There has to be a better way, and I look forward to hearing about it :)

BTW, I'm running Vista HP SP1. Are you on Vista? I wonder if that has
anything to do with it?

Beautiful!
I knew I was missing something obvious.
Thanks very much :)
