open e-mail within a conventional file

I have transferred e-mail files into conventional file for future reference
and now when I try to open the e-mail files they will not open.
I have done this for several years now and they always opened before but for
the last few weeks I have not been able to open them
What have I done to my settings to prevent these e-mail files from opening?

I believe the current problems opening .eml files are all stemming from
Google Desktop. Try removing that and see what happens.
